Intensive Support Program

At Glen Briar Academy, the Intensive Support Program is designed to empower students within our regular classroom environment while fostering independence, confidence, and meaningful participation in school life. Students in the program are typically working at or near grade level academically and benefit from additional support in areas such as focus, executive functioning, organization, self-regulation, transitions, social interactions, and classroom engagement.

Fully integrated into the school day, the program allows students to learn alongside their peers in age-appropriate classroom settings while receiving individualized guidance tailored to their unique strengths and learning needs. Through collaboration between classroom teachers and our Student Support Team, students are provided with targeted strategies that promote academic achievement, social development, and increased independence.

With a 1:4 ratio and small class sizes, students benefit from a structured, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment that fosters both grade-level learning and the development of lifelong skills for success inside and outside the classroom.

GOALSS in the Elementary Years

Glen Briar Academy is proud to offer a supportive school environment where all students are challenged and encouraged to reach their full potential. At the heart of this mission is our GOALSS Program (Guided Opportunities for Academic Learning and Social Skills), a specialized, full-day academic and social development program designed for students with diverse learning needs.

Primary GOALSS: Emphasizes foundational skills, early literacy and numeracy, social interaction, and self-regulation within a predictable, play-based structure. 

Junior GOALSS: Builds on academic foundations with a growing emphasis on problem-solving, collaboration, emotional awareness, and communication. 

Intermediate GOALSS: With a focus on mastery of skills, students are provided with the opportunity to understand, internalize, generalize, and apply their knowledge of curricular topics within small group settings.

During dynamic social periods throughout the day, and across all divisions, students are guided to apply and generalize social skills in order to gain confidence in building strong and reciprocated relationships with peers.

GOALSS in the Secondary Years

At Glen Briar Academy, the GOALSS High School Program (Guided Opportunities for Academic Learning and Social Skills) provides a supportive and individualized secondary school experience for students who benefit from a smaller, structured learning environment. The program focuses on developing academic skills, independence, executive functioning, communication, self-regulation, and social-emotional growth.

Our High School GOALSS program offers non-credit courses with a focus on functional academics, vocational preparation, real-world applications, and pathways to future education or employment. Through individualized programming, students strengthen life skills, organization, social skills, responsibility, and self-advocacy while building confidence and independence.

With small class sizes and collaborative support from educators and support staff, students participate in meaningful, engaging learning experiences designed to support both personal growth and future success in school, the community, and beyond.

Meet our Registered Behaviour Analyst

Andrea Siegel, R.B.A.(Ont.) has been leading and overseeing specialized support programs at Glen Briar Academy for over a decade. With more than 30 years of experience guiding children with diverse learning needs, Andrea brings extensive knowledge, expertise, and dedication to her role.

Andrea is a Registered Behaviour Analyst (Ontario), PEERS® Certified Provider, and is trained in the Wilson Reading System®. She works closely with students, families, and staff to develop individualized supports that foster academic growth, social development, independence, and confidence. Her commitment to evidence-based practices and student-centred programming has played a key role in GBA's Student Support Team.
