Language, History, & Heart All in One
Our curriculum is designed to support different learning styles and follows the four main strands outlined by the Ontario Ministry of Education
- Oral Communication: Understanding and responding to spoken Greek in various contexts.
- Reading: Interpreting and analyzing Greek texts.
- Writing: Expressing ideas through structured and creative writing.
- Intercultural Understanding: Exploring Greek traditions, history, and global influence.
Through academic challenge, personalized support, and cultural engagement, our students not only enhance their language abilities but also earn official credits. By program’s end, they are well-equipped for further education and global citizenship within the Greek-speaking world.
A Heritage Program That Builds Global Citizens
Πρόγραμμα Ελληνικής Γλώσσας στη Δευτεροβάθμια Εκπαίδευση
At Glen Briar Academy, the Greek High School Program is ultimately about more than learning to speak, read, and write Greek. It is about building connections across generations, strengthening cultural identity, developing confidence, and empowering young people to carry the Greek language and culture forward.
By the completion of the program, students leave not only as stronger Greek-language learners, but also as thoughtful and confident communicators who are prepared to participate meaningfully in their communities and in an increasingly interconnected world.
Μαθαίνουμε τη γλώσσα. Ανακαλύπτουμε τον πολιτισμό. Διατηρούμε την κληρονομιά μας. Χτίζουμε το μέλλον.

A Heritage Program That Builds Global Citizens
Language, Culture & Identity
Our program encourages students to explore the meaningful connections between language, culture, identity, and community. Students engage with Greek history, traditions, literature, contemporary life, and the global Greek community, developing a deeper appreciation for their cultural heritage while broadening their understanding of the world around them.
For many students, learning Greek strengthens connections to family, heritage, and identity. For others, it provides an opportunity to discover and appreciate a language and culture that has had a significant influence throughout the world.
High School courses foster a deep appreciation for the Greek language and culture while encouraging critical thinking, effective communication, and intercultural understanding. Through these experiences, students develop a stronger connection to the Greek-speaking world and are encouraged to participate actively and confidently in the global Greek community.
A Heritage Program That Builds Global Citizens
Communication & Language Development
We believe that language learning is most meaningful when students have opportunities to use the language with purpose. Rather than focusing solely on vocabulary and grammar, students are encouraged to communicate their ideas, ask questions, explore different perspectives, make connections, and apply their learning in authentic situations.
Through discussions, collaborative activities, inquiry, written communication, presentations, cultural exploration, and engagement with a variety of texts and media, students develop greater confidence and independence in their use of the Greek language.
Our curriculum develops students' skills across the four main strands of the Ontario International Languages Curriculum: Oral Communication, Reading, Writing, and Intercultural Understanding. Students strengthen their ability to understand and communicate in spoken Greek, interpret and respond thoughtfully to a variety of Greek-language texts, and express their ideas effectively through both structured and creative writing.
Through intercultural learning, students also explore Greek traditions, history, identity, values, and contemporary society while developing a broader understanding and appreciation of diverse perspectives.
Rooted in Heritage. Ready for the World.
