Greek Language as an Elective
GBA welcomes students of all backgrounds, providing a unique opportunity to learn a new language while exploring one of the world's oldest and most influential cultures. Greek Language is offered as an elective subject from JK through Grade 8 as part of our enriched academic programming.
Through interactive lessons, inquiry-based learning, music, literature, storytelling, games, drama, cultural celebrations, and hands-on experiences, students develop their skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in Greek. Instruction is individualized to meet students at their current level of proficiency, making the program accessible and engaging for beginners, heritage language learners, and students wishing to further develop their fluency.
Integrated into the school day, the Greek Language Program encourages students to make meaningful connections between language, culture, history, and global citizenship. Learning Greek allows students to explore the rich contributions of Greek civilization to philosophy, science, mathematics, literature, democracy, and the arts while developing an appreciation for cultural diversity and different perspectives.
At Glen Briar Academy, we believe that learning another language is about more than acquiring vocabulary and grammar. It fosters curiosity, confidence, communication, critical thinking, and intercultural understanding. Whether students have Greek heritage or are discovering the language for the first time, they are welcomed into a supportive environment where they are encouraged to become globally-minded citizens.
